Vermi – Compost & Mushroom Cultivation

Decomposed solid waste material from domestic refuse and agriculture which over a period of time is a nuisance to the people, is being productively disposed through Compost pits or Vermi-compost. After solid waste materials are properly decomposed they are converted to natural fertilizer which is used in the fields. Even those who do not have fields are selling decomposed agricultural waste for a reasonable price thereby earning additional income. Vermi-compost and Mushroom Cultivation require training, skill and care for a proper output. Hence a production-cum training centre currently functions at Thanneerpandal by SCOPE.

It is a common fact that natural fertilizers are good for health. Thus solid waste through vermi culture is converted to very effective natural fertilizer. The earth worms are properly utilized by skilled technicians. It has been scientifically proved that fertilizer through vermi culture consists of 5 times Nitrogen, 7 times phosperous and 11 times potassium than ordinary cow dung. Vermi-compost now has a good market ie., Rs.10 to 15/- per kg. Agricultural waste is used for mushroom cultivation. At present nearly 5 kg to 6 kg of mushroom are cultivated daily. A kilo of Mushroom is sold for Rs.50/-. Thus agricultural waste are being converted into healthy and tasty food.
