Due
to desilting of tank, construction of checkdams, gabion and
gully plugs, the storage capacity of the tanks was increased
which influenced in increasing the water table in the irrigation
well. These have helped in improving the agricultural production,
by way of more coverage of land for cultivation and raising
of wet land crops like paddy.
13.76 Ha of class IV lands have be class III lands. Value of
the land increased which is mailyu due to raising of trees.
10.81 Ha of class II Lands have become class I lands.
Initially the community was able to supply 60 litres of milk
which has now gone upto 500 litres per day through the milk
producers society, in addition to the required milk available
for their own consumption. This became possible because of the
upgradation of the animals, fodder management and the veterinary
services provided through the cattle care center. Additional
income of Rs. 500 to 1500 per month per family is generated
through dairy programme.
Interaction with beneficiaries reveal that they have been able
to gain knowledge on different aspects of dryland farming, water
management, daory, new technologies like integrated pest management,
prepartion of enriched paddy straw for fodder, composting etc.
This was made possible through various training programmes,
exposure tours and demonstration. E.G. the new varieties like
VRI-2 groundnut, Kovilpatti Nettai, New redgram have been introduced,
which produce more yeild.
NADEP
Compost is the useful method of recycling wasts and to produce
valuable organic manure. People realized its importance and
started using this manure in their fields, to increase the production.
Implementation of income generating programme increased the
purchasing power of the people. People are able to afford vehicles,
radio, television, gem cutting machine etc. In three wells hot
well system of lifting water is now changed to motor with pipeline.
Leadership quality was increased due to the formation of watershed
committee, women sangams and especially women have the potential
of overcoming any difficulties.
A drastic change can be seen in the attitude and living standard
of the people. The educational status of the children has been
increased.
The watershed committee has undertaken the initiative of doing
many new activities like planting trees in common lands, maintenance
of the structures (checkdams, gully plugs etc.,) maintenance
of handpumps.
